Utility Service Tips

INSTALL A PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT
Don’t pay for warm air that you aren’t using. By installing and setting a programmable thermostat, you can save money on your energy bills–lowering your thermostat 10-15 degrees for 8 hours can save 5-15 percent a year on heating bills.

LOWER WATER HEATING COSTS
Water heating can account for 14% to 25% of the energy consumed in your home. Turn down the temperature of the water heater to the warm setting (120 F).
PREPARE WINDOWS FOR WINTER
Weatherizing your windows can reduce drafts and installing storm windows can cut heat loss through your windows by 25-50 percent. Use a heavy-duty, clear plastic sheet on a frame or tape clear plastic film to the inside of your window frames during the cold winter months. Install tight-fitting, insulating drapes or shades on windows that feel drafty after weatherizing.
